First -  the biggest story from yesterday, former Chargers and Patriots Linebacker Junior Seau died yesterday from what cops are investigating as a self-inflicted gunshot to the heart.  His body was discovered by his girlfriend, who last saw him alive at 7:45AM when she left for the gym. Reports say that he texted his ex-wife and his kids with a simple text saying, “Love you” the day before.  Seau isn’t the first former NFLer to commit suicide with a shot to the chest, former Bears safety Dave Duerson did the same last year.  He texted his family before he did to ask them to donate his brain to science for concussion research and docs DID find connecting to a disease that is concussion related.  People are now saying the Seau may have done the same.  Last month, former Falcon Ray Easterling committed suicide and he had been suing the NFL over concussion-related injuries.  The Chargers put out a statement saying: “We ask everyone to stop what they are doing and send their prayers to Junior and his family.”  Junior Seau was 43.

Other big story out of the NFL was the suspension of 4 different players involved in Bounty Gate with the New Orleans Saints.  Jonathan Vilma, the teams defensive captain has been suspended for all of this season and that’s WITHOUT pay.  D-Lineman Anthony Hargrove, who is currently a Packer – is out 8 games and Defensive end Will Smith is out the first 4 games.  Finally – Scott Fujita, who is currently with the Browns will miss the first THREE games.  All of these suspension are without pay and the NFL said that a number of players participated in the bounty, but the was suspended players a more significant level.

Switch to baseball – the Cardinals dominated last night as Carlos Beltran drove in 7 runs and hit 2 homers.  Lance Lynn picks up his 5th win on the year and the Cards continue to roll.  The team looks to pick up the sweep of the Cardinals as Jake Westbrook takes the mound this afternoon.  First pitch is scheduled for 12:45PM.

Los Angels Angels pitcher Jered Weaver pitched a no-hitter last night and got the 9-0 win over the Twins.  It’s the 2nd time in history the two no hitters have come less than 2 weeks apart.  Phil Humber of the Whitesox tossed a perfect game on April 21st.  If you are curious…Jered Weavers has pitched one more perfect game then Albert Pujols has hit homeruns.  He still has yet to go yard this year.

Finally some NHL…last night the Predators picked up their first win in the 2nd round against the Coyotes and now trail that series by 1 as Phoenix is up 2-1.  And folks in Washington got their money’s worth as it took THREE overtimes for the Rangers to get the win against the Capitals.  NY now leads that series 2-1. Tonight’s action has the Flyers taking on the Devils in the early game with their series tied at a game a piece, and the Blues taking on the Kings at 9PM tonight for game three.  Currently – the Blues trail the series 2-0 against L.A.
